Wednesday, February 16, 2005 I am still recovering from the weekend over in Montreal. My gawd was it fun, even in the middle of winter. The bus ride there was a bit dissapointing. The bus driver decided to take the DVP in the middle of rush hour on a FRIDAY! Needless to say, it took about 9 hours to get to the hotel (which was right at the corner of Peel and SHerbrooke). THe room was huge and 5 of us stayed in the room. It could've accomodated more people easily. Anyway my cousin (who also came) and I imeediately went out to chinatown for some food. We were lucky that the train was still running at the time (it was near 1am). There were still quite a bit of people out...must be partying or something. The next day we had our concert at this hall in the English speaking part of town (in Westmount). VIctoria Hall i think the place was called. THe acoustics could've been MUCH better. BUt who cares, I was there for the sake of being in Montreal. Nothing else. lol. After the concert we were free to do whatever we wanted (this was Saturday) until the next morning when the bus was scheduled to leave. Crappy part was that we didn't finish till 5, which meant nearly all the stores have either closed or were about to close. Sucks. A few of us took the bus up to the famous Schwartz Deli for some smoked meat sandwiches. I remembered from way back (when I stayed in MTL for this government funded french program) that the deli was on St. Laurent somewhere. Anyway we missed our stop and had to walk a block back. It was all woth it. THe food was great. The place was so packed, we had to wait like 10 minutes outside for a table. COincidentally there was a film crew doing a documentary of the place. BUt I don't think i'll be seeing it since it'll be on local FRENCH tv (exclusively, i think). once inside and seated the guy took our orders. I got the standard smoked meat sandwich with fries and a pickel with a glass of coke. Later another random couple sat at our table...and we started talking to them. Apparently we weren't supposed to have our meat with just regular coke. you need to have it with CHERRY COKE. I didn't much like the taste though. It reminded me too much of children's cough syrup -- sickly sweet and extremely bad after taste. We asked them where the famous St. Viateur bagel place was. It was a pretty stpid questino since the shop was located on a Rue St. Viateur. Duh. After our meal we headed up there to get fresh bagels, for breakfast the next day and to snack on while we were on the bus. By all that, it was only 8PM....so there was a LOT of time left to do other stuff...espeically when I didn't sleep that night! I'll write more later. posted by Ben | | | 9:43 PM |
