Tuesday, December 23, 2003 I got up at 5:45 this morning to drop some people off at the airport. It wasn't as bad as I expected, althought it was around 7am when we got there. There were a LOT of police officers around though. I hope my flight won't get delayed or anything, otherwise that would really really suck ASS. posted by Ben | | | 12:10 PM Monday, December 22, 2003 WTF! EARTHQUAKE! Actually it wasn't as bad as "ground zero". I felt this gentle involuntary rolling motion. It was so weird. At first I thought I was getting dizzy from not having enough breakfast or something. Then my boss came over and asked me if I felt that earthquake. So then I thought, that's how an earthquake feels....cool! Or maybe it wasn't so cool if I were in San Simeon (SP?). YAY posted by Ben | | | 11:30 AM Sunday, December 21, 2003 Having something stolen from you probably feels as crappy as eating day-old sushi: It'll never "sit right" in your stomach. BC's car got stolen on Wednesday evening (Dec 17) from from the car-port at home! Luckily though, CY's acquired a brand new used Honda Civic just days before. I just have to say Timing was *really* good. The good news is the cops recovered it and it's in some impounding station in San Jose. It almost felt like I lost something. Then again, I ride in that car practically everyday, so that's justified. hahaha On to the fun stuff...Tuesday night a rather large group of current and former-interns-turned-fulltimers invaded Yoshi's in Oakland. This place was a sushi joint/Jazz club. We all went to see the Charlie Hunter Trio. I was extremely impressed by this group especially the Charlie Hunter. The 8-stringed guitar he was playing looked like it was an extension of his body or something. It's hard to explain with words so I wont. Live Jazz performance is really something. Putting Sushi & Jazz together....That's just uber-trendy. The meal wasn't cheap, I ended up forking out almost $30 that night on "okay" sushi....I think the shows was worth it too. While I have the topic of money in mind, I think I will rant a bit. I've been spending too much $$$ and it sucks. Eating out is fun, but eating out 7 days in a row is not good! I remember going to the ATM every other day, taking out $60 each time. I think I've gone way over my usual food expenses this week. I thin it's now at around $150 and still going up =( My new year resolution: Don't eat out so often. I am really looking forward to go back to TO. The weather won't be great but at least all my friends and family will be there. At the same time I'm a bit scared because people change and 6 months is a long time. I hope they don't find me all weird and stuff. It's a bit selfish on my part to expect that everyone's life just suddenly stops and wait for my eventual return. I'd be pretty flattered if that happened though. What else...Oh yea, my boss gave me a Christmas present yesterday! Although it's just a box of chocolate it was really nice of him to do that and it's good for the work morale of the employees (i.e. me!) posted by Ben | | | 3:15 AM Wednesday, December 10, 2003 Yay...Happy day. All the interns was at the "lunch with CEO" thing at Dave and Busters. It's more or less a chuck-E-Cheese's joint for adults. The food was good but that wasn't the best part. The best part was the games. The gaming cards must've been loaded with a ton of money. I won 2 CD's, both of which are from artists that I have never heard of. The highlight was when Brian and I accidentally stumbled upon this coin-operated gaming machine that just kept spitting out tickets when you insert a coin. I don't think it was supposed to "reward" us with so many. Basically with 7 coins, we got over 4000 tickets. Overall we ended up accumulating over 6500 tickets in one afternoon! I redeemed a martini mixer set complete with a stainless steel shaker, shot glass and "granny" strainer (at 2700 tickets) and two martini glasses (400 tickets each). Brian got some sort of globe thing for 2000 tickets and a tool kit (1000 tickets I think). Hmm...Now that I've revealed what I won this afternoon, the re-giving of the above items would be close to impossible....I like the martini set anyway! The other people in the group won a lot of stuff too. They seemed to have swarmed the doll machine all afternoon. I think they each walked off with a bag full of stuffed animals and other random objects. Horray for everyone. posted by Ben | | | 11:19 PM So far my blog has had 515 page hits. Anyways so on the Saturday (Nov 22) my family came to visit. It turned out pretty good. They had a good time. The only thing I would change if I had the chance to do this again is to fly down to LA instead of the bus. I think pay $50 per person to save 12 hours of travel time is totally worth it. So my trip to LA didn't end up as planned. We didn't go to Universal Studios or San Diego or meet up with my friend Andrew because we ended up staying an extra night in Las Vegas. The second night was cool cuz we got comped at the Mirage thanks to the "relatives" that came with us. Unfortunately it was too damn cold in Vegas that week. Actually, Vegas gets pretty chilly in the winter time. The palm trees they plant along Las Vegas Blvd are a completed farce! VEGAS IS COLD! Oh ya, I lost like $5 on the tables, no big deal there. As for LA...well....let's just say that it's a nice place to visit. I wouldn't want to live there. It's so dirty looking compared to Toronto. The hotel we stayed at was pretty good It's located right by the beach in Santa Monica (Wishire Blvd and Ocean Dr. to be exact). That explains a lot actually. Brian caught up with me and the family and he hung around that night too (so this is like the Thursday night, so it's US thanksgiving). The next morning we all went out for a drive since we spent like 5 hours in LA prior to that. The hotel is near Beverly Hills and Bel Air so that's where we went. I tried to look for the Will Smith house but I don't think we were anywhere near there. Honestly the houses are all gated so it's more or less impossible to see what it's like inside. We did sort of made a pit-stop at UCLA. It's kinda cool that a university is on top of a hill and in the middle of the rich part of town. Overall the week was cool but I wish it had been longer. Now that I am back at work, i feel lazy and sleepy all the time. The worst part of it is, I am already sleeping atleast 8 hours each night. I'm becoming so lazy! Speaking of being lazy, i've been watching way too much TV. I can list my entire weekly viewing schedule here but that'd be too long and boring. Besides those shows suck....except for that Paris Hilton show on Fox. It's pretty funny. Actually anything with Paris Hilton in it is funny...which includes but not limited to that notorious porn tape of her and this other guy that got leaked on the internet. She was also on Saturday Night Live last saturday. That was a hoot. posted by Ben | | | 10:41 PM |
