Autoblog contest entry #1

10. Man runs internet campaign raising funds to buy himself a Ferrari -- I could so relate to this. I'd be a bit modest and go for a BMW or something though.

9. A genuine traffic jam -- This is hilarious too. I have a thing for funny car related things don't I? It's pun-tastic.

8. Hack into OnStar -- I love this article so much just because it shows you how to tear things apart. Makes you feel like an outlaw in a way.

7. Wrecked Exotics -- One of many from autoblog. Just makes me grin knowing that some doood out there just totaled a $300k auto.

6. Hydrogen you can hold in your hand -- It's good to read about adavancements in alternative fuels (and their storage). Frig...with gas prices these days, hybrids etc. are looking more and more attractive.

5. EPA asks Toyota and Honda to lower fuel economy estimates for hybrids -- Yeah seriously. Some of their estimates are just a bit too optimistic. The Prius rental I had never got close to the mileage they claimed. But the Bay Area is rather hilly.

4. Nokia lends Bluetooth support to new VW Passat -- It just makes sense. Makes your life easier and the standard can be adopted by all phone makers and car manufacturers since it's like an IEEE thing.

3. Win a 2GB IPod Nano + FM Transmitter -- I love it. 'Nuff said.

2. Scion xB Release Series 2.0 -- I just can't get enough of this car. It's soooo awesome!

1. Wheels of steel: Scion xB doubles as DJ booth -- Scion xB's are awesome. My friends don't like it, but I think the shape is really cool. and I'm into the whole DJ'ing thing. Putting the two together is like my dream come true. Too bad they don't sell Scions in Canada. Too COol for school.

I'm not much of a gamer so this is news to me. According to this article I'm reading (it's part of a monthly info digest from Rogers), the XBOX 360 has 3 (THREE?!) processors running at 3.2GHz each. The expected retail price is $499. Shit...a multi-processor system with killer graphics and sound for $500 (plus tax of course)? It's a steal any way you look at it.

I should've posted earlier but 'Dead Like Me' got in the way. Just two more discs left and I would've plowed through season 2.

Friday: went to the world premiere of S.P.L. (short for Sha Po Lang) at the Toronto Int'l Film Festival. Funny thing was, I thought no one was gonna go since the 12am show was not sold out. Anyway when i got there the ticket holder line was around the block. I totally lucked out because I bumped into a good friend from way back that was also there. He was near the front of the line so to make a long story short, I cut in.

Anyway the film was awesome. I don't want to give the plot away or anything. The fighting is pure craziness. Donnie Yen and Sammo hung is da man. So is new comer Wu Jing. Oh..shit...i almost forgot....SAMMO HUNG an Wu JIng was at the premiere. I was litereally TWO ROWS in front of them. Got a few nice pics that i'll post later. After the show there wwas a question and answer period which lasted for like an hour. Needless to say I didn't get home till almost 3am. Totally worth it though!

Been working on a report for my boss ALL day. Till 1:30am. I thought it was gonna be a in-and-out job. I rented 'Crash' and didn't even get a chance to watch it. Suxors. GOod thing I don't pay for movie rentals. The fridge is so frigin' empty, and I'm so not in the mood for greasy chinese food. The sooner I go to sleep the sooner I'll forget about being hungry.

I CANT believe I managed to get up at 6am today, head over to the TIFF box office to get my tickets. It ended up being a pretty long day -- closing shift at the store. I met two new-hires tonight. Very friendly people. Both from the Vancouver area here in town for school. They say the like the city, but I'll ask them again in a few months.

One other thing, I've started playing again. Violin that is. It's been a while -- like a good 5 months. I think the strings needs changing. I'm glad I have access to the the EJB music library on campus. They've one of the largest string music collection i've seen so far. What to play? The usual: unaccompanied Bach partitas and sonatas of course. Good for getting my flexibility back as well as the soul.

Just got back not long ago from a luncheon for graduate students in my department. I felt a bit bad crashing their party even though I blended in quite well. I even talked to a few students who did their undergrad from other universities, including ones from places as far as Lebanon. I'm glad I wasn't the only party crasher. A lot of my former TAs (now aquaintances) were also there, which made me feel at ease. It was nice, and for once I didn't have to cook lunch.

All this waiting for simulations to finish at work got me thinking. I really haven't been using my time wisely over the past few months. I'm a chronic procrastinator. Admitting it is half the battle I suppose. First thing's first, I should really keep blogging more regularly. It certainly helps me keep track of what I've been doing lately. I hate wasting time, though I've been doing a lot of it lately. Recall the long list of 'movie reviews'? yeah. I completely vegged out for the last few months. New school year and all, I should get back into doing productive things at work and outside of work.

Frosh week started today. As usual, 1st year engineers with their yellow hardhats and t-shirts are the most obnoxious group of them all. Seriously. They annoy the hell out of me. Before anybody writes dirty e-mails with death threats to me, I my went through the same bullshit 5 years ago. So when I say it's obnoxious, it's *really* friggin' obnoxious. I'm looking forward to the department lunches this thursday. Read: Free Food. There's a lot of free food this week, and I just need to know where to find it. I can probably get away with not cooking the entire week if I'm lucky enough.

I've been reading news reports online about the looting, gun violence and even rapes (!!!) in New Orleans. Ok at first, I was sympathetic. Thousands have lost their homes and their belongings. It'll probably take years to get back to the same way of life as before...if that's even possible. From the pictures I've seen, most are still stuck in waist-high water, which by the way is probably swarming with disease from decomposing bodies, waiting to be rescued. Then you hear about the fools stealing TV's and Electronics. What the hell are you gonna do with those? Watch the latest DVD release of OC wihtout electricity? It's understandable that people may have to resort to stealing food and wather for survival. But I think greed has also taken over and I find that rather upsetting. Aid workers have turned away in fear of being shot at! Rescue work is delayed because the police are being diverted to stop the shottings. Another reason to have tougher gun laws America! My sympathy has turned to disdain.
