| BLOGGGGG my random thoughts |

Monday, January 31, 2005 I did something I should've done a LONG time ago. I GOT A LIBRARY CARD. I'm willing to bet that you were thinking it was gonna be something life changing or weird. Losers. I got two books. The first is a book on learning Chinese (Recall my New Year post about learning chineses?). Actually I can speak chinese fine, it's just the reading part that I need to work on. I'm hoping to get some words down. Maybe, lets say, 15 a month. That's like one new word every other day. I should be able to stomach that. But if my motivation to learn new words is as high as my motivation to blog...uh...then I should cut my quota down to 4 a month. THe other book: this is a totally random find. Straight off the mystery section. It caught my eye because it was completely yellow. I don't even know what it's called or who wrote it. Mystery books are the only genres out there that can really capture my attention. Case in point: Da Vinci Code. I think that book is more or less a mystery novel. Correct me if i'm wrong. I'm going to Band Camp once again. To Montreal this time. In 2 weeks. The crowd's a lot older, and most of them have jobs. NO hotties. The trip with the Stanford folks was fun, but we went to the middle of no where. But MTL is going to be fun. I'll stuff myself with bagels from St. Viateurs and then maybe party at Aria. posted by Ben | | | 10:52 PM Sunday, January 23, 2005 The weather this week was rediculously cold. I don't think it was ever this cold for so many days. Yesterday's "blizzard" sucked ass, althought it was really pretty to look at. I had no choice but ventured outside cuz I was totally out of groceries. A typical 20 minute grocery run ended up being 45 mins log. Worst yet, my headphone wire caught the exit door handle at the mall on the corner of Dundas/Spadina as I was leaving. It broke of course. At least they weren't my nice Sony headphones. GRRR In other news, I decided to head up to Montreal on reading week with my orchestra to do a concert. I think it'll be great since I haven't been there for a while (about 2 years I think). I'm a bit worried though. THe weather there is even colder than Toronto. Although, the stuff to do and see there easily outweigh the cold. yah? Courses this term: So far I like going to 2 of my 4 class The profs are great and they are so incredibally organized! Props to the EM group and Power groups. You know who you are. HAHA. The other two courses are a bit flaky. Especially optics comm. If i hadn't taken optical eng. last term I don't think I would understand ANYTHIHNG. I'm surprised the course is open to comp. eng people, especially when they've never taken any EM and semiconductor devices stuff intensively. It's good for us Elecs i guess. The instructor's gotta dumb things down. Good news is the text is 'ok' and the final and midterms are type 'X', aka open book. The last course, hardware, is a bit screwed. It's the second year that the prof is taching it. So we're more or less guinea pigs still. It has no exams, which is why I decided to take it. The topics supposedly relate to what I did during co-op which is cool too. But there's so much work and the lack of "instructions" kinda suck. That wouldn't matter so much if there was more time to go through the documentations...but I don't. I've a proposal to write for my "final project" which is weighted the same as a final exam. I still have no clue what to do. My partner and I are supposed to make a project using the this multimedia board. posted by Ben | | | 1:24 PM Tuesday, January 18, 2005 So the Pepsi Ipod contest was not a scam afterall. It came in the mail last Tuesday. I am the proud new owner of a 20Gb Ipod. Problem: I'm running Win98. iTunes supports Win2k/Xp. BASTARDS. Solution: 3rd party software "Anapod" to interface with Ipod. Seems to work well. I've 17Gb left of space....But that would probably fill up pretty fast. I'm gonna try BLogger's email-posting method. I hope that I'll actually write a little more. Once a week is kinda week. I'm not sure if I mentioned it on the blog, but I joined the Saturday Program. I think it's time that I share my knowledge of the math and sciences and help more some struggling high school kids. There were quite a few volunteers at the orientation meeting. I was impressed. They all get gold stars. I get one too, of course. posted by Ben | | | 1:04 AM Monday, January 10, 2005 So far so good. I've been keeping up track with school work and all. There was a problem set posted yesterday. I took that PS and SLAMMED it. Got it done in an hour. I was happy about that. Then i realized there was another problem set from another course. Damnit, forgot to print it out. I ended up doing nothing tonight except for watching 24. Good show by the way. I shoudl utilize my Day-planner more. I neglect it too much. It seems that I'm more effective just writing stuff on my hand. But I've been told that the ink really isn't too healthy in large doses.... posted by Ben | | | 11:24 PM Sunday, January 09, 2005 4 more months of school left! Well, not exactly. I'm hopin' to a few more years of graduate studes. But whatever, it's not important at the moment. I think my courses this terms are repeats of last term. That's good because I'd be able to do better than last time. I bought my turntables downtown to hopefully start some productions with my roomate. It's crazy I think it'll be great. I have a few things that I want to sample and re-do. Problem is I need to get some Accapela tracks first! One more thing, I've added a link to my friend Eric's blog. Interesting Guy. He's on co-op again. Lucky bastard. Having a source of income definitely rock. Happy New Years! posted by Ben | | | 2:40 PM Tuesday, January 04, 2005 Happy New Year to all who read my ghetto blog. I guess 2005 means a fresh start since it's a new year and all. I don't usually do New Year's resolutions because I've been trying to stick to what I've been planning on doing all last year which never really got done (which by definition really isn't a new Year's resolution). Here Goes: 1. Improve my Chinese (reading and writing) 2. Take initiative and don't procrastinate 3. Cut down on TV Viewing time 4. Call family more often 5. read 4 books 6. Get in touch with people that I have not talked to for a while In Other news, blogging is becoming more and more mainstream, according to the BBC. That's great because it's a great outlet for people to express themselves and improve their writing! Don't you hate it when people misuse words like "their" and "there" or "there" and "they're"? posted by Ben | | | 3:30 PM |
