my random thoughts

Hard to believe that school is startin' up again on Monday. I really want this holiday to be longer. Sleeping in is way too fun. Random shopping was great too. I got a few items on Boxing day...but nothing too extravagant. I've also been following the Tsunami disaster in Asia quite closely. Actually I started watching news reports since Sunday morning on BBC World when the death toll was still at 2500. I was pretty surprised, the self proclaimed "world's news leader" CNN was not covering it at all on Sunday morning. In fact, none of the American News stations, CNN, Headline, CNBC, MSNBC was dedicating much time to it at first. Now that Bush is comitting $$ into it, they follow the bandwagon. BOO urns.

I may be the next to join the ranks as one of the millions of Ipod owners out there. I just won a 20Gb ipod from the pepsi hourly draw thingies a few weeks ago! I'm excited! can't wait till it arrives :D

I would like to take the time and webspace to wish everyone a fantastic Christmas (not excluding Chanukah, Kwanzaa, Ramadan even though it was at least a month ago) and a prosperous and exciting New Year.

Christmas, like most other holidays have been completely commercialized by multi-national organizations. I'm going to adopt the "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" attitude. With that said, on to the selfish part of this post. I will require the following (possibly) frivolous items:

1. The biggest, fattest Ipod in existence

ok well, #1 really depends on who you talk to. i.e. My roommate can't live without his.

2. Records

there's a few on my list that I want, but don't want to pay for :D

3. Laptop

More like a desktop replacement...My current computer is old, like 1999 old.

4. A year's subscription to Scientific American, New Yorker, National Geographic and Architectural Record

What? I know what you're thinking...You must be saying to yourself by now, "This guy's a freaking nerd". My reply is: Proud to be one.

5. A trip to London, ENGLAND

Why? Because the BBC is so fan-freaking-tastic. Also because the spoken language there is Engrish.

6. World peace

'nuff said

7. A kickass statement of Intent for grad school

Ok this one is not *that* frivolous.

I'm so bored. I've been so unproductive too...if you count vegging in front of the TV for 12 hours productive then...uh...you're lazy too. Still this is better than going to school. There's apparently going to be a big storm tonight. Another excuse to stay in and not go anywhere.

Found an interesting news article off Google last night. It's supposedly the biggest "tech" schandl-ish thing to hit India...EVER. Checi it out here. Moral of the story? Don't ever video record yourself engaging in sex, cuz it's *WILL* end up on the internet.

WOW talk about crazy off-the-wall weather. It was -20C for two days in a row (more like -30 if you count the windchill factor). I mean, it's only December damnit! It's time like this that I get sick of Canadian weather and wanna get my ass back to California.

Man, the house is so empty with my two roommates gone. But the good thing is, I have full command of the remote, not that there's anything good on TV these days. I have the cable box tuned to the food network or BET almost 24/7. Nobody seems to mined, I think.

I was at Milestones last night celebrating my roomate's belated birthday. The food was great as always. I was surprised to see how busy the place got (even at 6PM) on a weeknight. Perhaps it's the location. Our server looked like Ellen Degeneres. I think everybody agreed on that. Smart server too. She gave us separate bills, with each meal with separate taxes and everything. Good move, it certainly saved us from breakin' out the calculator. SO she wrote "thank you" on the receipt with a smiley face. I was just being silly and wrote down "you're welcome. Call me" on it. BUt freakin' Hottie.D. wrote my name on it! OMG I'm gonna have to have my roomates pick up the phone for the next little while.

EXAMS ARE FINISHED!

I am so happy. The school routine took some time to get used to but I am happy to say that I have survived. 4 more months of undergrad-dom left. Looking forward to grad school, if I get in that is.

So what happened in the last 2 weeks? It was a complete blur. Nothing but studying and more studying. I had takeout 14 days straight, except for the one night that I went home to visit my parents. I just have to say that mom's cooking is simply the best. I thought doing only 4 exams would make life easier. It wasn't. They were too close together. Well, not *that* close. I had at least a day in between exams. What made it hard was the amount of material that I had to know, and know well. That sucked. This was especially true for my last excam on communications systems. The course would've been a piece of cake if they allowed an aid sheet. It was mostly memorizing formulas for that one. The weirdest exam had to be DSP. The questions were very...odd. It had more to do with the prof's research than actual DSP. The test was also open book...and some dude actually brought his laptop into the exam! I almost fell on the floor laughing when his windows XP 'logon' sound was belting out of his speakers. Microwave engineering and Optics were scary exams. I'm not sure how well I did on those two. I'll just have to wait 'n see.

Got new shoes last week. A high school friend sent a few coupons for FootLocker (30% off). Picked up a nice pair of New Balances. I like them. My feet are toasty warm. Best thing about them is that they don't leak!

Plans for the next week:
1. Update blog more regularly
2. Grad school applications
3. Sleep
4. do groceries, eat and get fat (this one's a priority)
5. Gym
6. more sleep

I'm tired and sick of doing work. There's not much to blog except for the fact that Exams are comign up. There's still a TONNE of work left to do...Problem sets, computer assignments, DSP labs, Progress reports. WTF?!

I spent the whole night doing the Microwave problem set. ONE STUPID QUETION. I spent 3 hours on it trying to work out the algebra. My brain isn't working. In fact I don't think it's been working for a while. Anyway I got hlep and it's finally done so i'm happy about that.
