Tuesday, October 28, 2003 It's been sooo long since my last update. Two words: Band camp. Okay maybe a few more words: Stanford Orchestra member's retreat/rehearsal/ice-breaker. WIkkid fun was had by all, and I got the pics to show it. Too bad I don't know how to take pictures of the milky way galaxy, cuz I saw it! Check this news article out: http://www-personal.umich.edu/~froomkin/texts/366.html It's the basis of the movie Better Luck Tomorrow. It's totally worth the $4 at Blockbuster. posted by Ben | | | 1:41 AM Tuesday, October 21, 2003 Lesson of the day: Never go food shopping when you're hungry. I learned it the hard way (well sorta) when CY, Bri and I went to check out this Jap/Korean/Chinese supermarket in Sunnyvale after work. Everything looked SOOOOO good. They had pre-seasoned/pre-cooked unagi on sale. That rocked, because it's never on sale. posted by Ben | | | 1:14 AM Saturday, October 18, 2003 It's the middle of October and I'm still wearing T-shirts! WOOHOOO posted by Ben | | | 6:41 PM Friday, October 17, 2003 Coffee + Ice + Cream + Sugar = Iced Coffee right? RIGHT! Then why didn't I realize this until this morning? The more I drink the perkier and thirstier I become. Tomorrow's CY's BDAY. FYI, GIRLFRIEND (You know who you are), we're gonna take him to places you don't want him to be at.....I've got about $50 in $1 bills hahahaha. posted by Ben | | | 8:47 PM Wednesday, October 15, 2003 Yay Humpday! posted by Ben | | | 10:58 PM Friggin ants. I thought I had plugged up all the holes and cracks. I turns out they weren't coming from the spots I filled up. I know where they are now! hahaha EVIL! Ant facts: http://www.stanford.edu/dept/news/report/news/april25/ants-45.html posted by Ben | | | 2:30 AM Monday, October 13, 2003 I'm SO tired. I shouldn't have switched shifts with Simon for 7am. Dinner last night at the Cheesecake factory was pretty good. The atmosphere was very Milestones-like but attracts a younger crowd. It's on the pricey side, but who cares its only once in a while! We ended up hanging out Union square till 12am! Lets see if CY has pics to link... posted by Ben | | | 11:45 PM Sunday, October 12, 2003 Tonight's Shahru's "surprise dinner" at the Cheesecake factory out at Union Square (SF again). Good news: I've never been to this restaurant and I really look forward to going, especially this particular location is on the rooftop of the giant Macy's. Bad news: dinnner's at 8:30 because there are so many people waiting. Good news: I'm not the one waiting :D yay! I am acutally at work as typing up this blog entry. posted by Ben | | | 8:53 PM Saturday, October 11, 2003 I got a new record today! It all started with Bri and I going to one of those free screenings at Metreon in sanFran. We missed the show time because it took almost 30 mins of driving around to find a parking spot. Instead of the movie, just walked around to explore the "downtown" area. (for those who know Frisco it was the Powell/Market/Yerba Buena Garden). You get to see so much by just walking and not driving around. So we ended up at Post/Market, where the Virgin store is located. Naturally I went to the vinyl section to see what was available...and found the Solu signle for $8. posted by Ben | | | 8:36 PM According to an H&R Block commercial, the average American has 14 credit cards and over $7000 in unpaid balances. Where do they get those stats?! I'm sort of an average American (at least, for the next 9 months) and I don't have $7k in debts! In fact think credit cards are great for tracking my expenses because every purchase I make appears on my online banking statement which allows me to budget properly. I really can't understand how people can get themselves into so much debt. Maybe H&R Block is talking about people like CY :P posted by Ben | | | 3:28 PM Friday, October 10, 2003 The coolest thing happened today at lunch. So me and a bunch of the other co-ops started the "Intern CCB" (it's a core team thing here at work), where we have meetings on Fridays at lunch. The point is to check out new and interesting restaurants in the area. We happened to go to Don Giovanni's in Mountain View, CA. today. Believe it or not, the CEO of our company was also there. The 9 of us were having our own convo and stuff like that, and then *da man* himself came over to chat with us. For some odd reason, he said "why don't I buy you guys lunch today" and whips out his gold American Experess and gives it to the server. we were like WTF?!?!? THE CEO BOUGHT US LUNCH! posted by Ben | | | 2:44 PM For anyone who happen to be in the Stanford area: WHAT: Flute Duo Recital, Kyung Park & Vincent Yau (Repertoire includes Telemann, Kuhlau, Schubert, Martinu, Doppler, and Caplet) WHEN: Saturday, October 18th, 8PM WHERE: Campbell Recital Hall, Braun Music Center *Free admission, of course! Too bad it isn't gonna be a Flute DUEL posted by Ben | | | 2:41 PM Thursday, October 09, 2003 I don't feel like I have anything nice to say today, so I won't say anything. posted by Ben | | | 11:19 PM The second new episode of Angel was on last night on the WB. I think I'm getting the concept behind this show. Anyone watching it should abandon all reality and pretend its Halloween. After that, things will start making sense. New word I learned while watching Angel: Necromancer. I had always thought that Necromancer mean people who like to do the "nastY" with dead people. nuh-uh...A necrophiliac likes to do that! haha posted by Ben | | | 5:34 PM Wednesday, October 08, 2003 So Arnold is govenor. Its really cool, considering he has absolutely no political experience. Its encouragment for people, like me, that literally ANYTHING is possible. He talks funny on TV...like "I have to bring back Californeeeah back to the way it used to be" or something like that. posted by Ben | | | 4:12 PM I know people read this blog, but why don't you post anything?! I spent so much time adding that tag board and comment and shit like that. It's not there to take up real estate ya know. *** What the Hell? Schwarzenegger won the recall? posted by Ben | | | 2:08 AM There was so much meeting food at work today! If this keeps up, I can officially stop buying groceries! Update on the Vegas/Los Angeles trip: The van has been reserved. Good news is, non of use have to pay the under 25 premium because the rental is through the corporate account. Bad news is, the deal limits us to 200 miles a day. I expect our whole trip to be around 1500 miles, so we'll have to buy more mileage or something. Crap. Orchestra Rehearsal: It was sectionals tonight, which meant only the violins practiced together. The group later separated into 1st violins in their own room. We ended up playing the name game for 20 minutes and this "2 truths and a lie" game. It's was kinda fun since that kind of broke the ice a little and everyone got to know everyone else just a little better. It's sad to say, that I'm the oldest undergrad there. Everybody either 18 or 19. There's this one girl who is only 19 and is already a Junior! (I think that means 3rd year) I'm like, what the hell?! I was in 1st year when I was 19. Damn. posted by Ben | | | 2:02 AM Tuesday, October 07, 2003 I made chinese soup with chicken and gingeng tonight. Holy shit i'm such a C-lai. HAHAH. Its all good though cuz I'm atleast eating well unlike other people that I know. Last week I came across an ABC/CBC-fob-wannabe's blog page. Today, I came across a REAL FOBBY page, thanks to YKC's Xanga blog! HAHAHA. Don't forget to turn on your NJ Star and what not http://www.xanga.com/home.aspx?user=tahako Looks like a cool movie: Stars that Half Jap/Chinese dude Takeshi Kaneshiro ‹à?é•?

Monday, October 06, 2003 JenJen sent me a personality quiz, and I thought that I'd share it with you here: 1. Get a blank piece of paper , draw a picture of a whole pig on it, not just the head , just a basic drawing though , don't spend too long on it . 2. DRAW THE PIG BEFORE YOU GO ON. IF YOU DON'T THE TEST WILL NOT WORK!! The results are posted below. I've purposely made it white so that You won't see them until you draw the picture. Just hightlight the text below to see what the picture has to say. By the way, the tail on my pig was *really* long. :P • If the pig is drawn to the top of the paper , you are positive and optimistic. Toward the middle , you are realistic. Toward the bottom, you are pessimistic , and have a tendency to behave negatively . • Facing left, you believe in tradition, are friendly, and remember dates(birthdays, etc.) Facing right , you are innovative and active , but don't have a strong sense of family , nor do you always remember dates . Facing front (looking at you ), you are direct, enjoy playing devil's advocate and neither fear nor avoid discussions . • With lots of details , you are analytical, cautious , and distrustful. With few details, you are emotional and naive , you care little for details and are a risk taker . • With less than 4 legs showing , you are insecure or are living through a period of major change . With 4 legs showing , you are secure, stubborn, and stick to your ideals If you have drawn more than 4 legs , you are stupid . • The size of the ears indicates how good a listener you are. The bigger the better. • The length of the tail indicates the quality of your sex life, and once again the longer ,the better. Ok, who didn't draw a tail? posted by Ben | | | 1:18 PM Sunday, October 05, 2003 My roomate's United Airlines flight was 30 minutes early! That's incredible because flight arrivals and departures are delayed 99.9% of the time. It sounds to me that Toronto is getting *COLD*. I guess I am now truly experiencing what it is like to be in "sunny california". With that in mind, Me and a bunch of others drove off to Santa Cruz for a fun filled day at the beach. It was great, except I forgot to bring my sandles with me. It was either walking with my sneakers on the sand and get sand trapped and lodged inside my shoe or walk bare-feet on the hot sand. Being stupid (as always), I decided to save my shoes from the sand and walked around shoe-less. The drive back felt like being in one of the Initial D episodes. The road was curvy, and there were no lights other than the rays coming from reflectors and head-lights of on-coming traffic. During one of the turns, the driver (who I wish to remain nameless) lost control of the car and almost hit the barriers! Lucikly the wheel somehow prevented the body of the car from scraping the barrier since it was turned in one direction. It's hard to explain, so I won't. I think we all thought we were going to die. lol I'm glad to say we all got home unscathed. posted by Ben | | | 10:43 PM Saturday, October 04, 2003 I did the unmentionable today. *I went to work on a Saturday* Ewww that totally sucks. But I think it'll be like that till the work term finishes... hey, at least I get overtime pay for it. posted by Ben | | | 10:41 PM Friday, October 03, 2003 I got business cards! I probably won't use it but it's the coolest souvenir you can get from a co-op job. posted by Ben | | | 1:18 PM Thursday, October 02, 2003 People from the following regins have visited my page: I'm going to start a list of places I want to visit. That would be kinda cool because my life seems really dull right now. posted by Ben | | | 8:40 PM I don't want to go to rehearsals tonight, although I should. I'll suck because I didn't practice my parts at all. Instead, I saw the season premier of Smallville and Angel on the WB. Angel was cool, but things didn't really make sense. Perhaps it's because I don't know the whole story. Chris's trainer...err...Girlfriend.... Has a blog! http://www.xanga.com/home.aspx?user=anfie It turns out that Microsoft Win2k comes with these "accessibility" utilities, and one of them can read text to the user! This is a lazy bum's dream come true (i.e. me)! No more reading required. If they can only improve that voice. It sounds like Steven Hawking's wheelchair. posted by Ben | | | 6:11 PM Wednesday, October 01, 2003 Remember the days of Asian Avenue? CBC/ABC-FOB-wannabe code is is as cryptic as SSL haha. Why do people LiKe TyPiNg LiKe ThIs AnYwAyz? check this chick out: http://www.xanga.com/home.aspx?user=kEnaIsHiTeRu . I think the spell checker and grammer checker is busted on her machine. posted by Ben | | | 5:13 PM So the first rehearsal at SSO just ended. The verdict? I think my expectations of the orchestra were too high. I can tell that the members are very talented musicians, but when it comes to playing as a group, things didn't really turn out that great. At that point O realized that this is another case where the Stanford name scares you into believing they're good. GO STANFORD! there were some pretty cool people at the orchestra. Most of them looks like are either in 1st or second year. (Freshman or Sophomore). Well, atleast that's what I noticed in the Strings section. The bras/winds looked a little older, so I take it that they're grad students or something. I'm definitely gonna skip the Halloween concert and hit up Castro in SF for the street party. That's gonna be too good to miss. I heard from the interns last year that they saw same-sex couples doing the nasty by the windows for everyone to see. I mean if a party gets THAT wild, there's gotta be *some* fun in it right? Now I've to make a "legit" excuse to the conductor to ditch the show. posted by Ben | | | 1:29 AM |
