The TIFF is ending this week. I originally had planned to see a screening of a Thai Horror film tonight, but the Design project has higher priority. Tickets prices are insane this year. A regular film (i.e. not the fancy schmancy red carpet gala screenings) is $16.75 +tax. What the hell? The coupon books aren't worth it for me because I don't have the time to see 10+ films. The festival is becoming less and less affordable, especially for younger people who don't have a steady source of income (i.e. ME). I remember, back in the day, tickets were around $10-ish. Then it went to $14 two years ago. Now it's $16. Ok, even if you account "inflation" into the equation, it still shouldn't be $16. Yes, most of the films will probably NEVER make their way into mainstream cinemas which supposedly justifies the higher-than-normal admission. But shouldn't it be affordable so that most people can see the films? I swear, TIFF is gonna end up like Cannes or Sundance. It'll get it's own channel on digital cable and the only people eligible to attend the fest will be A-list hollywood actors and actresses.
