my random thoughts

I think this has been the longest interval between posts. Yeap i am lazy. Truth be told i'm not. Work has been getting in the way. Tapeout is in about a month and my co-worker and I have to get our shit done on time.

I've been reading a book on language acquisitions as well. They were recommended to me by a friend of mine who happens to be in...um...linguistis. Steven Pinker's The Language Instinct is the name. It's good read but maybe not for enjoyment but more for curiousity. Also been forcing myself to learn more chinese as well. I got this novel-ish book (ya written in chinese) and i was surproised that I can read most of it. So i'm happy about that. I got my friend to record chinese news (from that paid cable station) for me because they're subtitled (in chinese) so that I can follow along and pickup words. It really helps. Learning chinese thru karaoke helps too, but i'm not about to make a fool of myself in front of a crowd of strangers (or friends for that matter).

In other news, got my grad school app in. It's basically an all-or-nothing shot for me. UT or no UT that' sit. Off to industry I go if I am not accepted. Waiting sucks ass though. I shall face defeat and the fact that i'm not grad school material. Money is good. It'll help me save up for that down payment for an apartment or something.

The DVD player broke right in the middle of my Battlestar Galactica marathon a few weeks ago. I strongly urge anyone reading this to NEVER EVER buy low-end panasonic DVD players. They're Bitches, and are known to break easily. Just search the internet for Panasonic H02 errors. It's an optical drive issue, though I haven't been able to pinpoint which part of the drive is broken. At the moment it just doens't seem to want to spin up the disc. so instead of renting movie I went to the threares instead. Saw the following:

1. Brokeback Mountain --> it's pretty good. not as gay as i thought tho. funny thing, the entire theatre audience was female except for my friend and I.
2. Matador --> funny. Pierce Brosnan in a comedy is actually not that bad.
3. Munich --> it's 164 mins in duration, but honestly it really doesn't seem that long. The guns that look like bicycle pumps were the coolest...And they had those in the 70's?!
