Friday, September 24, 2004 Currently listening to: Jessica Simpson - With You Yeah that's right! Gotta problem with that? I didn't think so. Good night and sweet dreams. posted by Ben | | | 1:10 AM Wednesday, September 22, 2004 I'm still not sick yet. That's great. The roomies are getting better too. I picked up some groceries on my way home tonight which included these gigantic cantoloupes. I thought they were on sale. The price was 2 for $3. so $1.50 each. I'm not sure if that's a 'sale' price or not. I simply got them because they smelled fragrant. Damn, I still have 5 tangerines that I have to finish up too. And the moral is? Never do your groceries on an empty stomach because you end up buying more than you need! posted by Ben | | | 11:07 PM Tuesday, September 21, 2004 Both my roomates have been coughing and sneezin' a lot lately. Hmmm...More OJ! I'm being extra cautious so that I won't get their germs. The inevitable will happen sooner or later. I too, will start sniffing and sneezing soon. At least I'll be ready for it. Bring it on! posted by Ben | | | 1:29 AM Saturday, September 18, 2004 The TIFF is ending this week. I originally had planned to see a screening of a Thai Horror film tonight, but the Design project has higher priority. Tickets prices are insane this year. A regular film (i.e. not the fancy schmancy red carpet gala screenings) is $16.75 +tax. What the hell? The coupon books aren't worth it for me because I don't have the time to see 10+ films. The festival is becoming less and less affordable, especially for younger people who don't have a steady source of income (i.e. ME). I remember, back in the day, tickets were around $10-ish. Then it went to $14 two years ago. Now it's $16. Ok, even if you account "inflation" into the equation, it still shouldn't be $16. Yes, most of the films will probably NEVER make their way into mainstream cinemas which supposedly justifies the higher-than-normal admission. But shouldn't it be affordable so that most people can see the films? I swear, TIFF is gonna end up like Cannes or Sundance. It'll get it's own channel on digital cable and the only people eligible to attend the fest will be A-list hollywood actors and actresses. posted by Ben | | | 6:28 PM Tuesday, September 14, 2004 My roomate picked up a copy of the Toronto Life Student Guide 2004 from school today, and to my surprise, the location of our house can be found on two maps of "cool places" in TO -- Queen West and Queen West West. The basement was flooding last week. My room wasn't affected but it sucked anyway because it was in one of my roomate's room. The landlord doesn't know where the water is from. It happens when it rains hard. I hope it gets fixed before winter sets in. School started yay. Went to Frosh Nite (engineer party) at the new Lucid night club. It was weird going there becasue it used to be Playdium and I worked there during highschool. The inside didn't change much, except for the lounge chairs and bars that occupied the same space where the video game machines used to be. posted by Ben | | | 1:19 AM Tuesday, September 07, 2004 This humidity is pretty damn bad. The AC at home is way too cold, but at least it keeps the place dry. I am compelled to wear a sweater in the morning because my body thinks it's February. My CD burner no longer burns, my CD reader no longer reads. But the CD burner still reads though. How crappy is that? *CRY* I really need a job. I want to work, and make money. I feel naked without steady income. posted by Ben | | | 5:25 PM Monday, September 06, 2004 Happy Labour Day. I think This Land has been floating around for a couple of days now. Toronto City Hall explodes. posted by Ben | | | 1:41 PM Friday, September 03, 2004 Gmail moved their "you have XXX Gmail Invitations" thing yet again. It is now prominently displayed in the in-box, in royal blue, next to the "Compose Mail" link. Hmmm I wonder if they're going to put it next? hahahahahaha. posted by Ben | | | 11:23 AM Thursday, September 02, 2004 Roomie #2 moved in on Tuesday. I don't see him much, though. Probably because he's always at his girlfriend's place. All the better....since I won't have to fight with him for the bathroom (at TV). Booya. posted by Ben | | | 10:19 PM It turns out that the OPAMP layout done (yet). My supervisor did some serious critiqing on it on Monday and I (with the help of my partners) spent the last two days re-working it. It's much better now, but it still has a long way to go. MUST FINISH BEFORE SCHOOL STARTS! We've gone wireless at home....802.11 that is. Look ma, no wires! I got myself a handy little USB wireless adaptor for my desktop. It's it works well for now. If you're wondering which model I got, it's the D-Link DWL-122 USB-WiFi adaptor. I got it refurbished so it doens't come with any warranty :/ but it was hella cheap. Signal strength is decent at 8Mbps connection. It's more than enough since the Roger's internet conection is around 3Mbps downstream (at best). Thinkin' about this wifi stuff makes me want to get into communications even more. Did you know that 802.11 uses PSK modulation to transmit/receive signals at 2.4Ghz? Cool huh? The RF electronics aspect is really interesting too. I sort of regret not taking IC Engineering in September because I feel like I'm missin' out on stuff. Then again, the design project is already giving me a taste of what it's like to design for high speed. So many choices! But I think i'll stick to comm for now. I think i'm going to start a new blog for school related stuff. It'll be a way for me to chronicle my adventures/misadventures as I start (and finish) my final year of undergrad. I'm debating whether or not I should make it public or share it with my closer friends since I'm sure there is going to be some serious profanity in it. Decisions Decisions. posted by Ben | | | 1:17 AM |
