Tuesday, April 27, 2004 Uploaded pictures from the Cherry Blossom Festival to Yahoo. Check it out here. posted by Ben | | | 9:15 PM Monday, April 26, 2004 Visited the 37th Annual Cherry Blossom festal (and parade) in Japantown yesterday with the co-ops. Fun day I must say. A little hot, but good in general. The food stalls were selling stuff like udon noodles, tako yaki (BBQ squid), green tea icecream, yams and other traditional Japanese grub. I saw Gavin Newsom, mayor of San Francisco, in person shaking hands with parade-goers (is that a word?). That guy is taller than I thought. I bought this Japanese softdrink called "Ramunade". It kinda tastes like cream soda. Some people might know what I am talking about. It comes in this glass bottle with a marble in it. You have to push the marble into the bottle "open" it. I didn't buy the glass bottle version though. The one I bought came in an aluminum can shaped like a bottle! It's great because it has a twistable cap, so it's reusable. Gotta give credit to the Japanese for coming up with stuff like that. We got bored of the parade and headed up to Berkeley to get Cal t-shirts. I picked up a navy blue polo-style shirt. It's nice but I don't think I'll wear it to school :D Parking was really bitchy yesterday. We left the car at this lot that said "reserved for military personnel". We weren't gonna stay that long anyway. The car next to us already got a parking ticket so somebody suggested we take that ticket and put that on our car. Well, I suppose it worked because we got away with it. We also stopped for a few minutes on campus. Damn it William Hung wasn't around. posted by Ben | | | 8:10 PM Wednesday, April 21, 2004 OMG! I got GMAIL! ...well probably me and a million others. It's google's new email service...I was told by a co-worker today that hasn't officially been launched to the public yet, but as a blogger.com member we get to sign up to give it a "whirl"... 1GB of mail space is hella sweet Went to see Missy, Alicia Keys and Beyonce in Oakland yesterday. Wicked concert! Alicia Keys rocked the house (the others did too, but just not as much). It is very refereshing to see some real talent on the stage. She solo'ed most of it -- her and the piano. Missy opened the show. She sang mostly her older stuff. She's got lots of energy and practically danced non-stop. But I couldn't hear her words because the speakers were too loud! Actually it was too loud for the whole concert. My ears are still ringing! I hope this ringing isn't permanent. That would suck. Beyonce put on a sick show! IT's got everything from indoor pyro to giant MOVING screens. I was a bit surprised she sang mostly Destiny's Child songs. Does she own the rights or something? Anyways being wednesday posted by Ben | | | 9:36 PM Monday, April 19, 2004 I didn't realize this at first, but I think I've gone way over budget on eating out this week. I don't know the exact amount of money I spent, but having to go to the ATM on both Thursday and Saturday (Which is extremely rare for me), and taking out $60 each time is somewhat of an indication. Anyways I had some seriously fun times this weekend. It all started with Kill Bill Vol. 2, on Friday (as if I haven't talked about it enough) and dinner at San Jose's Japan Town. Then followed by a visit to the Intel Museum and Nvidia on Saturday afternoon and Palo Alto Philharmonic concert in the evening, which involved driving to the beautiful town/city of Los Altos (I wanna move there when I retire...Seriously!). To finish off an already action packed weekend, my co-op friends and I visited Monterey Bay Aquarium, Monterey Fisherman's Wharf and Carmel on Sunday. I'll try to post some pics up in the near future. I originally thought that Los Altos was a nice place to live. I think it pales in comparison to Carmel. The whole town of Carmel is so upscale, it's scary. A quick browse through a local real estate office display window shows that the cheapest house in the area sells for just over $990K, while the most expensive one is $5M+. For you Toronto folks this place is a lot like Yorkville, only 10x wealthier and 100x larger, with the Pacific ocean and a white sand beach as its backyard. Well this week is gonna be all dedicated to the Design project. Read through the tutorial on Thursday....gotta give it a try. Started a new book this week as well: the Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown. So far so good. I really like this seamless blend of fact and fiction. It's a bit scary for un-educate youths like myself because fantasy can so easily be regarded as fact. It has received a lot of praise from people I know and the press. I finally got my hands on a copy. More good news: Local FTA Multicultural tv station KTSF is gonna start broadcasting J-Drama "GOOD LUCK" which stars the popular Kimura-san from SMAP on May 8! I'm very psyched for the premiere. UNFORTUNATELY, I won't be in Cali to see the whole series. BOOO! posted by Ben | | | 2:01 AM Friday, April 16, 2004 Ordered tickets to the Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Missy Elliot concert yesterday at Oakland Arena! I've never ever been to a live concert before, so this is going to be really exciting. PLUS... KIll Bill Vol 2 tonight! posted by Ben | | | 1:13 PM Thursday, April 15, 2004 Kill bill vol. 2! This friday! Being the eager one, myself and various others have pre-purchased tickets for the Friday show at 7pm. I don't expect too much from it, but it should be a good 1.5 hour of mindless violence. The fact that it's a total Asian action film parody, makes things even better. posted by Ben | | | 12:31 AM Wednesday, April 14, 2004 Good News: New RAM seems to have fixed the problem! Good News: Ordered Camera and Compact Flash today! posted by Ben | | | 7:45 PM Tuesday, April 13, 2004 Stupid computers. My ram *DIED* last night. I mean, how can RAM just die? The horror started when booted up the machine last night. When the OS booted up, the machine froze. The OS froze a couple of times before but it didn't raise any red flags, since I am still using Win98. Anyways, tried to reset the computer and re-boot. After initialization, the motherboard just started BEEPING incessantly. Apparently the ram got screwed somehow. This sucks big time. Luckily, the IT guy at work was generous enough to give me a DIMM from an old machine that was to be thrown out. I hope it won't die on me again. I really hate to think the motherboard is destroying the memory. IS that possible?! posted by Ben | | | 6:19 PM Monday, April 12, 2004 Found out how all that spy-ware/ad-ware got on my machine! Somehow the wmplayer.exe file got replaced with a malicious clone. As a result whenever I pop in a CD, media player would launch and thus starts the download of all sorts of weird CRAP. People who write this software should be shot. posted by Ben | | | 6:12 PM Tuesday, April 06, 2004 There's something seriously wrong with my work computer lately. I've been getting random pop-ups and other annoyances. Some website must've installed adware/spyware without me knowing, and without my consent. The Internet, as with all "communities" has its good and bad sides. Comes with the territory, I suppose. This adware/spyare phenemon is becoming an issue. It's like letting a door to door sales person invite himself into your house, without you knowing! Luckily, Ad-aware took out most (if not all) of the junk these websites installed. posted by Ben | | | 2:36 PM This stuff kicks some serious butt: Excerpt from The Gospel of Debbie: October 21 Everyone says that he’s just totally good and devoted to all humanity and that he was sent to save us and that’s why he doesn’t have time for a girlfriend, although I swear I saw Mary Magdalene doodling in the sand with a stick, writing “Mrs. Jesus Christ” and “Merry Xmas from Mary and Jesus Christ and All the Apostles,” with little holly leaves all around it. And I’m like, Mary, are you dating Jesus? and she says, no, he’s just helping me, and I’m like, you mean with math? and she’s like, no, to not be such a whore. And I said, but that is so incredibly sweet, and we both screamed and talked about whether we like him better when he’s healing the lame or with a ponytail. posted by Ben | | | 3:18 AM Sunday, April 04, 2004 Most people who know me are aware that I laugh at almost anything especially jokes that play on stereotypes. Well, check out this bit from Details entitled "Gay or Asian"? Yeah it's true that some straight Asian guys dress, look and act like gay guys ("metrosexuals" perhaps?). I am, however, concerned about the choice of words used... ladyboy fingers: soft and long. perfect for both waxing on and waxing off, plucking the koto, or gripping the kendo stick What the hell is this crap? It sounds so rude and offensive. My 2 cents. posted by Ben | | | 4:25 AM Thursday, April 01, 2004 Last night, after falling asleep watching the O.C, I decided to evaluate my work habits in the last few months. Things don't look good, at least not as good as it used to be. The lack of "homework" has made me become noticeably lazier. There are things to do. I'm just not doing them with the efficiency that I would like. With reading design project related stuff, the orchestra (startin' up again), (Canadian) Taxes, looking for a place to rent in Toronto, and stuff from work, I feel as if I don't have time to do anything else. I think I'll try *not* watching so much TV for a little while. posted by Ben | | | 12:44 PM |
